IN HONOR OF GENERAL DAVID MUSUGURI

In the morning light of Mara’s land,

Where grasses whispered across red sand,

A child of sun and soil was born,

To rise, to serve, to bear the horn.

A herder first, of goats and dreams,

He wandered fields and watched the streams.

Yet fate, with plans both strange and wise,

Had bound his path to broader skies.

In 1942, with Africa’s call,

He left the fields, he gave his all,

From Butiama’s soil to KAR’s might,

In fields of valor, he learned to fight.

Through islands thick with jungle heat,

To lands where oceans’ powers meet,

He marched with brothers, bound by code,

And carved his path on war’s dark road.

Through gunfire, wounds, through loss and gain,

Where echoes stilled but scars remained,

He fought like thunder, fierce and bright,

Through darkest hours, he held the light.

Madagascar’s siege, a storm-wrought test,

Where young men proved their might, their best.

With every mile, his courage grew,

And through each step, the legend too.

In Burma’s mire, through fire and steel,

Where soldiers walk and wounds don’t heal,

He bled, he fought, he held his ground,

In silent strength, his name renowned.

Not just in rank, but heart and grace,

A sergeant rose with measured pace.

To lead, to teach, to stand as guide,

A gentle strength, with honor tried.

Through winds of war, in Simba’s hills,

Where battle roared, and time stood still,

He earned a name, “Mutukula’s” fame,

A spirit fierce, an unquenched flame.

When Amin fled and battles ceased,

Musuguri stood as peace’s priest,

Two days a ruler, by duty’s hand,

Then back he went to his cherished land.

For every year he lived and more,

From sea to field, from peace to war,

In every breath, in every stand,

He served with heart, his promised land.

A soldier’s honor, a timeless grace,

In the land of heroes, your spirit we trace.

So rest, great General, the world will keep,

Your story’s light, where legends sleep.

With solemn pride, I offer my salute,

In tribute to you, a hero so true.

A gun salute will sound, echoing high,

For your valorous heart, we honor and cry.

Thank you.
